About me

Matt “Chubbs” Morris is a professional tattoo artist from Wickliffe, Ohio, with 9 years of experience. Specializing in Japanese and American traditional as well as black and grey realism, Chubbs is known for putting an American twist on classic Japanese imagery. His work is designed to last a lifetime, with a focus on creating bold, timeless tattoos that honor tradition while offering a modern edge.

Chubbs began his tattoo journey through a high school art technical program before apprenticing under Toran Marshall and Ross Lloyd at Classic Tattoo. Growing up skateboarding and immersed in heavy metal music, he developed a love for bold, powerful imagery that translated naturally into his tattooing. Influenced by filmmakers like Akira Kurosawa and legendary tattooers such as Horiyoshi II & III, Mike Rubendall, and Henning, his art blends deep cultural appreciation with his own creative flair.

He specializes in large-scale Japanese pieces, aiming for cohesive works that can ultimately build into bodysuits. Chubbs values open communication, honesty, and

making clients feel comfortable throughout the process. Whether working with a first-timer or an experienced collector, his approach is rooted in trust and collaboration. He’s traveled extensively for conventions and guest spots across the U.S., earned awards, tattooed professional athletes, and completed large back pieces for fellow tattooers.

Outside the studio, Chubbs enjoys spending time with his family, painting, golfing, traveling, and watching Japanese films. A memorable experience includes being tattooed while sitting on a cliff at the Grand Canyon, and a personal favorite tattoo is one passed down from his uncle in 1953, potentially done by Sailor Jerry.
